An Introduction to Robyn: Printmaker and Photographer

Welcome to my blog!

I’m a printmaker and photographer with a particular interest in nature and representations of it, and I dabble in lots of different print techniques. I’m currently undertaking my Phd at London College of Communication where I’m using print and photography to research and develop ecoGothic theory. I’m also a print technician and tutor at Leicester Print Workshop where I get to teach and interact with lots of artists at different stages of their creative lives which I love!

Robyn is a woman with short red hair, stood next to a panelled wall of blue and sepia cyanotype prints

This photo is from my solo exhibition at Dubrek Gallery in Derby, 2024.

This blog is going to be a space where I talk about my PhD research but also where I write down all the things I've learnt as a print technician so other printmakers can find some top tips and ideas!

PhD Research

My PhD research focuses on ecoGothic theory, which is a framework for analysing cultural output and how it represents our relationship with nature. It was originally just used in literature as an extension of ecocriticism but now I’m adapting it to encompass visual arts as well. I have three primary branches within this research which is: darkness and obscurity, agency, and time and place. These themes form a structure around which I work whilst also allowing for dynamic interplay between my theory and practice.
